..and fate, too. One day you'll go through your own set of issues that will make you believe as well... Sorry, I'm ranting. ANYWAY!
July 4th weekend- what a long one, but I still could have used one more day. Sira came in on Friday from Florida and we planned to make the most of NYC's museums, but somehow we ended up in the Gap instead (my will to shop overpowers even the most determined tourist). I did get to introduce her to china town where I found cute gold hoop earrings for $45, ok I really paid $46 but I have a hard time admitting I lost the bidding war by a buck. Afterwards, it was over to Times Square where we watched "War of the Worlds" - damn good movie and dark as hell, left me feeling super creeped out. After being dazzled by the lights of Times Square, we hopped the train back south to the SI Ferry where someone called my cellphone asking if I liked scary movies ?? It had to be Carlos and he was watching me from afar. I've shown pics of Carlos before (one of my closest buds) but here's one he took w/my camera phone on the ferry:
I could have done a better job at taking it but he was about to arm wrestle me for the damn phone. He gave us a ride home where we watched some TV and swallowed a few Coronas. I miss having that kid around, stop being such a damn workaholic!
Saturday we headed out to Queens for a BBQ at Cesi & Dru's place. I decided to be completely sun-guarded with my big rimmed floppy hat:
It didn't last long, I could hardly see anyone at my sides, complete tunnel vision, but it was cute!
Sira, you ARE taller than me!
At the BBQ we got our first hands on experience with Sofia (Dru & Cesi's daughter) - here's the happy family:
Sorry Cesi, but Sofia is her daddy's mini-me.
Dez and Angelina - she's such a cute chunk! (Aly -the mommy- was hiding from the camera).
It was a Corona-filled kind of weekend.
At this point Ant may have had too many.
A first for me was seeing the roast of a small pig. I have a pic but some of my readers are vegetarians and animal rights advocates so I don't want to gross them out. What a mental trip that was, put some cooked pernil in front of me and I'm all over it, but show me the actual pig whole and I can't look at any piece of meat that once oinked for a week!
Although we had plans to visit this place and that, by the time 9 pm rolled around we were about ready to pass out. So before we knew it, it was Sunday and we were baking in moms backyard. Little Imani showed up with Candice with the cutest spikey hairdo ever:
My camera ran out of space after this so more pics will come later when Candice sends me hers.
Sunday night we were on a mission- the point was to stay out as late as possible in order to run Sira straight to the airport for her 7am flight. (Who books 7am flights on 4th of July you ask? My cousin, but I love her so it's fine - muah* Sira).
We often get mistaken for sisters, what do you think?
We hit up Quo- interesting crowd there
Got caught by the paparazzi
He was whispering sweet nothings in my ear.
By 3 am Anthony and I thought our feet would fall off. Sira, aka Party Girl was on the go, ready for more. We convinced her that an early breakfast would be good before her flight and headed to a Brooklyn diner. At 5am we were saying our goodbyes as she left into the Jet Blue terminal. Suddenly what had felt to be a long weekend seemed so short. We returned home only to knock out until 2pm JULY 4th...
My mom has great connects.. she was able to get us front row seats to the Macy's NYC fireworks show. Her friends own an apartment on the Queens side of the East River right across from Trump tower- in other words we were right in the middle of the fireworks display. First we had to take some sunset poses on the balcony:
(Yea, I know Que cute!)
It turned out to be pretty cool for the 4th of July evening, luckily we bundled up in sweatshirts as we sat at the piers;
And watched the amazing fireworks display - I found a way to link videos ( I swear I b/c more of a tech geek every day) so enjoy- just click on the play button:
